In EAI’s feature film “Bawar,” courageous women fight for their education in Pakistan
When two young Pashtun women fight for their right to education in a deeply conservative and patriarchal society, their actions threaten the old order, with dire consequences.
Produced by EAI in Pakistan, “Bawar” (Trust) tells the powerful story of young women, Paghunda and college student, Palwasha, who fight against blatant inequity and the prejudice of their family patriarchs for their right to education. Calling attention to the lack of trust many Pakistani men have for women, this narrative has fostered a much-needed dialogue in the region where legislation and cultural norms have contributed to keeping women illiterate, housebound and unable to make their own choices.
