International Day of Education

For this year's International Day of Education, Equal Access International is sharing our work to empower learners to become agents of peace in their communities.

For the 2024 International Day of Education, Equal Access International celebrates our work to empower learners to become agents of peace in their communities. EAI is proud of our commitment to adaptive education, helping communities around the world drive transformative and sustainable change and to use media to bring education to people during times of crisis.

In the Philippines, EAI is combatting violent extremism through the ongoing “Communities and Schools Leading in the Fight against Terrorism” (CS-LIFT) project. Partnering with educators, religious leaders, and the media, CS-LIFT actively disrupts terrorist influence among youth. The CS-LIFT Toolkit, developed jointly by EAI Philippines and a team the Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao, equips teachers to deliver a targeted, context-sensitive, and interactive Preventing Violent Extremism curriculum to Grade 10 students.

In Northern Côte d’Ivoire, Resilience for Peace is raising awareness of the importance of schooling for youth, especially young girls. Although Côte d’Ivoire requires school attendance, the Fulani community currently send very few of its children to school. R4P encourages enrollment through explaining the benefits of school, sharing success stories, and promoting discussion. Following sessions, Fulani participants have committed to promoting schooling in their communities, enrolled their children in school, and even enrolled in literacy classes for themselves.

It was very important to show our parents why they should send their children to school, especially young girls. Through this awareness campaign and by the applause, I think they understood.  Youth Participant
