For this year’s 16 days of activism, Equal Access International joins UN Women led efforts as a call to action and a reminder that violence against women and girls is the most pervasive human rights violation worldwide.
This campaign began on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and runs through Human Rights Day on December 10th.
One in three women experience physical or sexual violence at least once in their lifetime. Supporting and investing in women’s rights organizations is key to ending violence against women and girls, and yet, only 1% of gender-focused state aid goes to these organizations.
As part of the 16 days of activism, our Securing Nigerian Communities (SNC) project team organized a roundtable discussion on December 6th titled “UNITE – Invest to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls”. The objective was to facilitate a discussion around the challenges in the push for gender inclusion strategies and women’s involvement in peace and security, and to create awareness around GBV.
