The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an annual United Nations campaign advocating for the elimination of violence against women and girls worldwide. Equal Access International (EAI) Nigeria consistently supports the fight against gender-based violence in all its forms by cultivating supportive environments for women to lead in combating violence, conflict, and sexism in their communities.
This year, EAI Nigeria actively participated in the 16 Days of Activism through a robust social media campaign. The team utilized EAI’s Facebook, Instagram, and X platforms to share impactful messages and quotes from team members surrounding the theme “Unite to End Violence Against Women.”
Additionally, EAI Nigeria hosted live sessions on Facebook every Wednesday and Thursday during the campaign. These sessions provided opportunities for meaningful interactions with followers, fostering discussions around the push against gender-based violence. In the livestream the first week, the hosts discussed in the importance of the theme for this year, “United to End Violence Against Women.” Participants discussed the need for everyone to use their voices to help reduce the number of women that face violence in their communities. The second livestream included a discussion on what has changed since last year’s 16 Days of Activism Against GBV, including the level of effort towards eradicating gender-based violence.
To further engage the audience, EAI Nigeria posed a thought-provoking question on its platform: “What success will a community achieve if it can protect and prevent women from violence?” Several followers shared their responses:
“Wato gaskiyar magana idan aka bawa mata tsaro da kulawa, tabbas alumma za ta samu cigaba, tsaro, nustuwa. Kula da tsaro ga mata shine kashin bayan tarbiyyar duk wata alumma.” - “If we can protect women in our community, there will be development, security, peace, and they will not be traumatized, and every community will have healthy and well-organized youth.” Basheer Tunisia Jos
