Carla Koppell
Board Director
Carla Koppell brings an important perspective of peacebuilding and gender equality strategic experience to EAI's Board of Directors.
Ms. Koppell leads a program on diversity and inclusion in international affairs as a Distinguished Fellow with the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security, which examines and highlights the roles of women in forging peace and security, economic empowerment, countering violent extremism, and mitigating climate change and natural disasters.
She recently served as a vice president with the United States Institute of Peace. Prior to that she was chief strategy officer at USAID and was appointed USAID’s inaugural senior coordinator for gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Other roles have included director of the Institute for Inclusive security, and deputy assistant secretary for international affairs with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. She has also worked for the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.
Ms. Koppell holds a Master in Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School and a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University.
