SSMK Lauded & Teams Up with Orlando Bloom!

KATHMANDU, Nepal -- September 2008 "Saathi Sanga Manka Koora" (SSMK) or "Chatting With My Best Friend", was lauded with the regional UNICEF 2008 International Children's Day for Broadcasting (ICDB) Award. The ICDB honored radio and TV broadcasters that demonstrated the best overall dedication to youth participation in media.

The winning drama program focused on the problems faced by the girls in the absence of female wardens in their hostel. Hollywood superstar Orlando Bloom, who was then on a trip to see UNICEF's program in Nepal, was featured as a guest, giving a tip to the children on how things could be solved if everyone worked together.

Radio Saves Wives from HIV/AIDS Infection

India & Nepal -- November 2008  There are nearly three million Nepalese working abroad in countries like India, Malaysia and the Middle East.

While away from their families the men engage in unprotected sex and often contract HIV. Nearly 50 percent of people living with HIV in Nepal are migrant labors. These men then return home and infect their wives. To stop this infection chain, a unique radio program called At Home and Abroad, is communicating with migrant men, their wives and families about safe sex and HIV.

LONDON, England (CNN) -- "I feel that my life is worthless. I have lost my interest in talking to others, and in my studies too. I have also lost interest in being with a crowd of people. All I want is to sit all by myself. Is my problem an illness? Has it got any solution?" This letter was sent in from a male university student. The youth team in Nepal answers questions like these and provide a forum for discussion every week for millions of eager listeners.
