EAI launched its first project in Pakistan in 2008, working in the now merged Khyber Pakhunkhwa (KP) and the Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) regions of the northern part of the country along the border with Afghanistan.
Our highly skilled local staff have expertly implemented projects focusing on tolerance, religious freedom, education, gender equality, countering violent extremism, civic participation, and transparent government. We produce content and training materials in Urdu and Pashto and, when possible, in other dialects. We work on some of the most sensitive issues in the farthest-reaching areas of Pakistan, successfully integrating traditional civic engagement structures like Hujra gatherings and by including local influencers and leaders. We integrate traditional media, including street theater, sports competitions, poetry, and music with radio, interactive technology, film, and television, enabling us to be inclusive of all members of society in our programming.
